PASE: Putty SSH Cygwin

Brief

Using Putty, Cygwin and SSH for secure PASE X GUI. I find this option to be reasonable GUI performance, but slower than my linux ssh -X connection. Unfortunately there is substantial download and configuration to get this to work on Windows.

Dependencies

Configuration

putty.exe
Session:
host:myi5osbox port: 22
connection type: x SSH
SSH...
X11:
x enable X11 forwarding
X display: localhost:0
x MIT-Magic

Example

Make sure sshd is running on the target i5osbox (SSHSetup above).
click Cygwin
>startx
click the putty.exe icon and select the session above.
>user/pwd
>anyxapp

Note:
Make sure that you have a home directory on the server
for the userid you sign on with (/home/userid),
so that a .Xauthority file can be created.

Performance

Reasonable performance on i5/OS even running GUI applications such as nedit.
